The Second International Symposium
on Global Drug Policy: Vienna 2004

On the occasion of the United Nations 47th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, the Senlis Council held the Vienna International Symposium: Governance, Transparency and Drug Policy. As a high-level panel dialogue on drug policy governance, the Vienna Symposium gave the opportunity for senior officials from around the world to discuss new orientations towards an effective drug policy framework.
The international panel was divided into two themes: Regional and Global Perspectives.

The Senlis Council held a press conference to report the outcome of the 2004 Vienna International Symposium.
Symposium panel speakers were joined by Sir Keith Morris, former UK Ambassador to Colombia and member of the NEF Comité des Sages, and Mr. Emmanuel Reinert, Executive Director of the Senlis Council, to answer questions from the international media. On the occasion, The Senlis Council and NEF Comité des Sages issued press releases.

| 2004 VIENNA NGO COMMITTEE ON NARCOTIC DRUGS FORUM |
On the 17th of March 2004, the Vienna NGO Committee on Narcotic Drugs held its annual forum at the Vienna International Centre on the occasion of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs. The Forum highlighted the priorities of leading international NGOs in the anti-drugs field, in relation to the international drug control policy of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, in the lead-up to 2008.
Opening speeches were delivered by Mr. Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, and Mr. Thomas Legl, Chariman of the NGO Committee on Narcotic Drugs.
