Speech to award winner Dr Eva Tongue

Michel Perron, CEO from the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse and First Vice Chair of the Vienna NGO Committee on Narcotic Drugs

Dearest Eva,

I sincerely regret not being with you tonight as I am currently en route back to Canada (and as you know I have a young son anxiously awaiting my return). I am absolutely delighted at the award you are receiving this evening from The Senlis Council. Your life long commitment, leadership and steadfast dedication to advancing NGO interests has yielded many rich and diverse legacies.

From the active work of African NGO's which you so dearly hold in your heart - to the extended family you've led as chair of the Vienna NGO committee - to our collective magnum opus in Beyond 2008 - allow me to thank you for your selfless dedication for our collective benefit.

I've only been on the international scene for 15 years or so - a mere blink of an eye for you - but I would like to publicly acknowledge and thank you for the experiences, insight and sage counsel you've been kind enough to share with me. I have learned and continue to learn from you and look forward to doing so for many more years.

Allow me then to ask your guests to raise their glasses and to toast you for your exemplary service to improving the lives of people around this globe, to continued good health and to many more years of happiness.

To Eva Tongue.
